Our tips

Things you should know

  • The capacity of the Catacombs is limited to 200 visitors at any time. Admission may be delayed for a short time during busy periods. That explains why during the holidays it’s impossible to enter if you arrive after 6 p.m.

  • The waiting can easily take 3 hours of your time during the holidays and 1 hour during the rest of the year.

  • The best way to avoid it is to buy in advance your tickets, they allow you to skip the line. Book them here.

  • Keep in mind, there are no toilets or cloakrooms inside, and you’ll have to take 130 steps to go down and 83 steps back up to street level. The Catacombs are not accessible for persons with reduced mobility.

  • The average temperature inside is about 14°, so take some warm clothes with you.

  • In addition, the space being reduced and sensitive, no baggage larger than 40 x 30 cm is allowed.

  • Despite all these challenges, the Catacombs are really worth visiting!

  • Audio-guides: To enable you to discover the site for yourself, the Catacombs of Paris provide audio guides available in French, English and Spanish. Fees: €5.

  • Duration of the tour: 45 minutes.

  • Children: 5€

  • Reduced rate: 10€ (Youth and young adults (18-26), large families and holders of the “Paris Pass Famille”, school teachers and librarians, holders of “Navigo-Améthyste-Emeraude” card, members of: la Sauvegarde de l’Art Français, la Société de l’Histoire de l’Art Français, la Société francaise d’archéologie, la Société nationale des Antiquaires de France. )
    Valid ID required to get a reduced rate.

  • Free admission: Youth 18 and under, disabled and their personal care attendant, people in situation of handicap and guide, job seekers and beneficiaries of income support supplements, city of Rome inhabitants (Paris twin City), city of Paris employees and councillors in activity or retired, professional visual artists with written evidence, Art World professionals : International Association of Art Critics, museum guides, French and foreign curators, « la commission du Vieux Paris », ICOM and ICOMOS members, journalists, art press reporters and federations.
    Free admission is only possible upon presentation of valid ID.

Working hours

  • Open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:45am to 8.30pm. Last admission: 7:30pm.

  • Closed on Mondays and public holidays: 1 January, 1 and 8 May, Easter Sunday, Ascension feast, White Sunday, 14 July and 15 August (Assumption feast), 1 and 11 November, 25 December.
