Our tips

Our practical advice in high season

  • Crowds can be very bad during a temporary exhibition. In some cases, you might have to queue for an hour just to get to the ticket desk.
  • We strongly recommend you buy your tickets online- thus skipping the first queue for the ticket desk.
  • Entry C is reserved for those that have bought tickets: skip the whole line!
  • If you’re planning on visiting at a weekend, bear in mind it is quieter in the morning than after midday.
  • Avoid planning your visit on a Tuesday: the museum being closed on Monday, many people are impatient to visit the next day!
  • The Thursday evening openings allow you to discover the museum in a pleasant and much quieter atmosphere.
  • The museum is open on high season holidays.

** Plan your visit in advance **

The museum is huge, we recommend that you identify the works and areas that interest you in advance to better optimize your visit. The Musée d’Orsay website has an [interactive map] (https://www.musee-orsay.fr/fr/outils-transversaux/plan-salle.html) for locating the works.

How to access the Museum

Located in the heart of Paris, the Musée d’Orsay borders the Seine. The site is accessible in many ways:

Subway: line 12, Solférino station RER: line C, Musée d’Orsay station Buses: 63, 68, 69, 73, 83, 84, 87, 94

Two Vélib stations are located nearby, allowing you to reach the museum in an ecological way: both are located rue de Lille, on either side of the Museum.

An off the beaten track visit

If you don’t want to do like everyone else or if you are in a non-standard situation, the museum often offers alternatives to the classic route.

In the program, [visit in sign language] (https://www.musee-orsay.fr/fr/visite/visiteurs-individuels/visites-en-langue-des-signes.html), [family visit] ( https://m.musee-orsay.fr/fr/en-famille.html) on fun themes for 6-12 year olds, [guided tour by a speaker] (https://www.musee-orsay.fr /fr/visite/visiteurs-individuels/visites-guidees-adultes.html) in French or in a foreign language are among the options offered.

In addition, the museum is well suited to the visit for ** disabled people ** thanks to elevators, and a wheelchair loan is possible for people with difficulty getting around!

Prices

  • Full price: 14 €
  • Reduced ticket: 11 €
  • Free for all minors, all 18-25 years old of any EU member, and for everyone ** the first Sunday of each month ** (which we do not recommend because the museum is very crowded then).

Keep your Orsay tickets! You can enjoy reduced prices for the next 8 days at the Palais Garnier (Paris Opera).

** Combined tickets **

With combined ticket, save on the visit to the Musée d’Orsay by adding the visit to the Musée de l’Orangerie. The ticket price is € 18 (vs € 20.50 for separate visits).
