The Uffizi Gallery

• Try to book your ticket in advance; during high season you can easily lose an hour or two in the waiting line! An online ticket will cost you 4 € more but you’ll be able to skip the queues.

• Avoid Tuesday mornings.

• The best days to visit in high season (July-September) is Tuesday or Friday evenings, when the Gallery has extended opening hours and closes later than usual.

• If you’re booking the ticket online - prefer the opening time, about 8:15, on Wednesday or Thursday. You’ll get inside quickly with the ticket and will have about an hour before the Gallery will be taken over by tourists. You can thus plan your visit in order to see the most important exhibits first, when they are not yet crowded, and pass to less popular rooms when Uffizi fills with visitors.

• The peak hours in the museum are between 10:00 and 12:00. Most tourists plan to visit Uffizi in the morning and spend about 3-4 hours inside. So the first wave of tourists subsides by noon. At the same time it gets quite hard to queue under the midday sun, and many decide to have lunch before going to Uffizi. After 2 p.m. the waiting line starts increasing again, but after 4 p.m. it only diminishes.

• The best period for the visit (with the smallest queues) is from November to February while May is the busiest month.

• Be sure to take the audio guide or the guide book for your visit: indications in Uffizi contain nothing more than the name and the author of the paintings.

• On the first Sunday of each month the entrance is free for all visitors. That’s when you’ll see the biggest queues so try to avoid this day.

Due to security reasons, there can be only 900 visitors at the same time inside the Gallery. During peak hours the waiting line gets long quickly because entrance is allowed only upon the exit of another visitor. The limit is usually reached by 9am, so those waiting in line will have to wait at least 60-90 minutes until visitors from first wave start leaving. Considering even 2 hours are not usually enough to visit Uffizi - the tourists waiting in line at this time will suffer the longest wait. Thus we strongly recommend you avoid coming at 10 a.m. Later in the day, with more people leaving and therefore more people entering, the queue gets quicker and quicker. The later it is, the quicker you’ll get inside.
