Choosing when to visit
Monday is one of the busiest days of the week at The Solomon R. Guggenheim museum. Many other popular museums are closed that day, making The Guggenheim a popular museum to visit on Mondays. If you can’t avoid Monday, plan to arrive at the opening time in the morning - you’ll have enough time to see everything before the museum gets packed.
On Saturday, from 5 pm to 8 pm visitors can ‘pay what they wish’, so this is also a busy time. You’ll see long lines everywhere – definitely a time slot to avoid. If you plan your visit on Saturday, make sure to be done before the discounted admissions start.
If you want to avoid the crowd at Guggenheim Museum, plan to visit at 10 am on a weekday. You will have enough time to enjoy the exhibitions and its world-renowned collections of modern and contemporary art before it gets too busy inside.
Another option is to plan your visit on Tuesday in the late afternoon. The museum has extended opening hours on Tuesdays and is open till 8 pm, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy the museum with no crowd.
Choose a sunny day for your visit. Waiting lines to museums in New York tend to double in length when it’s raining.
The best option to avoid waiting in the line and to have direct access to the museum is to book your tickets online. We strongly recommend to buy your skip-the-line tickets saving you a considerable amount of waiting time!
Tips for the visit
- When you visit the Guggenheim Museum, start from the top floor and then go down level by level. Most people will be handling their visit in inverse order, if you’re lucky you can escape the mob and enjoy the various galleries and exhibitions with no crowd.
- The restrooms near the entrance of the museum are usually very crowded. If you don’t want to waste your time waiting in a line for the restroom, head upstairs to use the restrooms located throughout the museum.
